IB Foreign Language at Tucker Middle School:

As an IB MYP, Tucker Middle is committed to supporting multilingualism as a fundamental part of increasing intercultural understanding and international-mindedness, and is equally committed to extending access to an IB education for students from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Students learn about the countries, culture, and language of Spanish and French speaking people, deepening their understanding, appreciation, and connectedness to the global society. Spanish and French MYP students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade take the course for the entire year, meeting every other day. Students taking Carnegie French or Spanish (7th or 8th grade only) meet every day for the entire year, and must successfully pass the class in order to receive 1 Carnegie Unit towards high school graduation.

These courses are designed to introduce students to the study of a foreign language by emphasizing vocabulary, grammar and study skills. Students will discuss cultural perspectives, practice conversation and listening skills, and make connections between Spanish/French and other areas of study as they participate in our multilingual community.
